Chapter 7 - The Federal Warrant

"FEDERAL AGENTS! DON'T MOVE!"

The thunderous command echoed through the vaulted ceilings of the lodge, accompanied by the heavy, rhythmic thud of tactical boots rushing into the house.

Eight federal agents in black tactical gear, rifles raised and flashlights cutting through the dim morning light, swarmed into the grand living room. Behind them stepped Special Agent Laura Bennett, dressed in a long dark coat, her federal badge clipped securely to her belt.

"Hands where we can see them! On the floor! Now!" the lead tactical officer roared, aiming his rifle directly at Richard Henderson.

Richard froze, his hands slowly rising into the air, his face pale with utter shock. Elaine gasped, dropping her porcelain coffee cup, which shattered into a dozen pieces against the stone hearth.

Daniel let go of my shoulders instantly, raising his hands and backing away on his knees. "Wait! There's been a mistake! This is a domestic dispute!"

"Shut up, Daniel!" Agent Bennett barked, walking straight past him and crouching down beside me on the floor. She looked at my pale face, then at the shattered syringe lying inches from my hand. "Are you hit, Rebecca? Did he inject you?"

"No," I gasped, my chest heaving as tears of pure adrenaline finally broke free. "No... I cut his arm. The needle broke on the floor."

Agent Bennett glanced at the clear liquid pooled on the hardwood, then looked up at the tactical officers. "Secure the crime scene! Get the hazmat collection kit for that fluid, and arrest Dr. Aris Thorne for attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon!"

Two agents slammed Dr. Thorne against the wall, pulling his arms behind his back and snapping heavy steel handcuffs onto his wrists. He didn't say a word, his cold gray eyes staring blankly at the wall as blood dripped slowly from the shallow cut on his arm.

"What is the meaning of this?!" Richard roared, trying to maintain his authoritative composure despite two federal rifles pointed at his chest. "I am Richard Henderson! You have no right to break into my private residence without a warrant!"

Agent Bennett stood up slowly, reaching into her inner coat pocket and pulling out a thick, official document stamped with the seal of the United States District Court.

"We have three warrants, Mr. Henderson," Bennett declared, her voice cold and iron-clad. "A federal search warrant for this property, an arrest warrant for Dr. Aris Thorne for medical malpractice and corporate conspiracy, and an arrest warrant for you, your wife Elaine, and your son Daniel for corporate embezzlement, wire fraud, and conspiracy to commit murder."

Daniel panicked, looking frantically between his father and the agents surrounding them. "I didn't do anything! It was my father! It was my mother's idea! They told me what to sign!"

"Daniel, keep your mouth shut!" Elaine screamed at her son, her regal composure completely collapsing into ugly, desperate rage.

"Save it for your arraignment, all of you," Agent Bennett said, signaling to the officers. "Take them into custody."
