Chapter 5 - The Raid on Blackwood Lane

The quiet, suffocating halls of the Sterling estate instantly transformed into a chaotic war zone of flashing red and blue lights, heavy combat boots, and shouted commands.
"Clear the landing! Secure all exits!" an officer barked, rushing up the stairs with a tactical shield.
Eleanor dropped the silver poker as two troopers converged on her, slamming her wrists into steel handcuffs with practiced efficiency. She didn't struggle, but her eyes locked onto me with a venomous, unrepentant hatred that promised retribution even behind prison bars.
Marcus froze at the top of the stairs, his hands raised instinctively in the air. "Wait, there's a misunderstanding! My wife fell down the stairs—she's unstable, she doesn't know what she's saying!"
"Shut your mouth, Mr. Sterling," Detective Vance growled, stepping up the stairs behind the lead tactical officer. Vance looked down at me, kneeling beside where I clutched a sobbing Toby. He gently placed a warm, steady hand on my uninjured shoulder. "You okay, Elena?"
"My collarbone," I gasped, tears finally breaking free and spilling down my cheeks. "And my son... get us out of here."
"Medics are right behind us," Vance assured me, looking up at Marcus with pure disgust. "Marcus Sterling, you're under arrest for conspiracy to commit murder, financial fraud, and custodial endangerment. You have the right to remain silent."
As Marcus was shoved against the wall and cuffed beside his mother, he stared at me with utter disbelief, as if he couldn't comprehend how his meticulously constructed web of lies had unraveled.

Within minutes, paramedics rushed up the stairs with a stretcher. They carefully loaded me onto it, strapping Toby securely into a specialized infant carrier resting safely across my chest. As they wheeled me down the grand staircase—past the very marble steps where Eleanor had tried to end my life—I looked up at the crystal chandelier glinting overhead.
The house was no longer a terrifying labyrinth of shadows. The dark secret was out in the open, dragged kicking and screaming into the disinfecting light of day.
