Chapter 9 - The Legacy Restored

One month after the trial, I stood in the quiet, sun-drenched courtyard of my grandfather's old estate in Charlottesville, Virginia.

The property—a beautiful, historic stone house surrounded by rolling green hills and ancient oak trees—had been tied up in estate litigation for years during my parents' fraudulent schemes. But using a portion of the $6.4 million Legacy Principal, I had officially purchased the estate outright from the liquidating bankruptcy court, saving my grandfather's true home from being auctioned off to corporate developers.

Paige walked out onto the stone patio, holding two cold glasses of lemonade.

"It's quiet here," Paige smiled, sitting down on the wooden bench beside me. "A lot quieter than the barracks."

"It's peaceful," I agreed, taking a sip of the lemonade, looking out at the sun setting over the Blue Ridge Mountains.

"So, Commander," Paige teased, nudging my shoulder. "What's the next mission?"

I pulled a crisp set of military orders from my jacket pocket.

"I report to Fort Meade on Monday," I revealed. "Special Intelligence Division. First Lieutenant rank."

Paige's eyes lit up with pride. "First Lieutenant Vance. It has a pretty damn good ring to it."

"And the rest of the trust money?" Paige asked gently.

"I established The Arthur Vance Educational Foundation yesterday," I explained, turning to look at her. "Three million dollars of the principal has been placed into an endowment fund. Starting next month, it will provide full, four-year academic scholarships for military cadets who have been disowned, abandoned, or financially cut off by their families."

Paige stared at me, tears pricking the corners of her eyes. "Audrey... that's incredible."

"Grandfather wrote that trust because he believed in education and hard work," I said softly, touching the gold wristwatch on my arm. "I'm just making sure it goes to the people who actually need it."
