Chapter 10 - A New Empire and a Happily Ever After

Six months later, the New York criminal underworld looked entirely different. With the remnants of the Rossi syndicate dismantled and integrated into a modernized, strictly regulated code of conduct, Dante Moretti had solidified his reign not just through fear, but through absolute respect and stability.
And my life? My life had transformed beyond anything I ever could have dreamed in my wildest imaginations.
It was a crisp, golden autumn afternoon. The leaves in Central Park were painted in brilliant shades of amber, red, and gold, matching the exact color of Orion’s piercing eyes as he trotted happily beside us along a private walking path.
I wore a sweeping emerald-green dress, my hand comfortably resting in Dante’s warm, strong grip. He wore a tailored charcoal suit—no coat, just a crisp white shirt—and for the first time since I had met him, there was no shadow of paranoia or danger in his gray eyes. Only deep, profound peace.
"You know," I murmured, leaning my head against Dante’s shoulder as we walked, "if someone told me a year ago I'd be walking through Central Park with New York's most feared Mafia boss and his giant bodyguard dog, I would have laughed in their face."
Dante chuckled, a rich, warm sound that made my heart flutter every single time. He stopped walking, turning to face me on a secluded stone bridge overlooking a glassy pond.
Orion sat down obediently at our feet, letting out a contented sigh.
Dante reached into his breast pocket, pulling out a small velvet box. My breath hitched, and the world around us seemed to melt away.
"When you petted Orion that night at the restaurant," Dante said softly, his voice laced with emotion, "I thought it was just a coincidence. A stray spark of warmth in a cold world I built to keep everyone out."
He slowly opened the box, revealing a breathtaking diamond ring that caught the autumn sunlight like a star.
"But you didn't just tame my dog, Elena," Dante continued, looking deep into my eyes with an intensity that took my breath away. "You brought light back into my life. You brought my family's legacy back to life, and you made me believe in a future I never thought I deserved."
He dropped smoothly to one knee on the cobblestone bridge.
"Elena Marshall... my heart, my soul, my anchor. Will you marry me, and rule this empire by my side forever?"
Tears spilled over my eyelashes, but a radiant smile broke across my face.
"Yes," I whispered, my voice thick with emotion. "Yes, a thousand times yes."

Dante slid the dazzling ring onto my finger, standing up to pull me into a passionate, breathtaking kiss as the autumn breeze swirled around us.
And right beside us, letting out a joyful, echoing bark that made nearby pigeons scatter into the sky, Orion wagged his tail, celebrating our happily ever after.
