Chapter 10 - Forever Home

Three years later.
The spring morning was breathtaking. The gardens of the Moretti estate were in full bloom, filled with vibrant pink cherry blossoms, dark red roses, and lush green grass. A light, warm breeze carried the sweet scent of flowers through the open French doors of the sunroom.
Today was a special day.
It was Leo’s tenth birthday.
The wide patio was set up with long tables covered in bright blue linens, colorful balloons, and a massive three-tiered chocolate cake shaped like a dragon. Dozens of guests—friends from Leo’s school, trusted family allies, and neighborhood kids—were running around the lawn, playing tag and laughing.
I stood by the edge of the patio, holding two-year-old Anthony on my hip. The little boy had his father’s thick dark hair and my blue eyes, babbling happily as he pointed at the balloons.
"Da-da! Look! Big balloon!" Anthony squealed.
Dominic walked up behind us, wearing a sharp dark polo shirt, his arms showing his faded tattoos in the sunlight. He effortlessly took Anthony into his broad arms, tossing the toddler into the air, making the little boy burst into sweet, ringing giggles.
"Gotcha, little man!" Dominic laughed, kissing Anthony's chubby cheek before looking out over the lawn.
Down on the grass, Leo was leading a group of his classmates in a high-stakes game of capture the flag. He was tall for ten, confident, athletic, and possessed a warm, radiant smile that captivated everyone around him. Beside him, seven-year-old Lily was acting as his designated 'second-in-command', yelling out tactical commands with hilarious authority.
"Look at him, Isabella," Dominic whispered, pulling me close to his side with his free arm. "Look at our boy."
My heart swelled with overwhelming pride. "He's amazing, Dominic. He's kind, strong, and so full of joy."
"Because of you," Dominic said softly, looking down at me with absolute devotion in his eyes. "You gave him his life back. You gave all of us our lives back."
"We gave it to each other," I corrected gently, standing on my tiptoes to press a loving kiss to his lips.
Suddenly, Leo caught sight of us standing on the patio. He handed his flag to a friend, wiped the sweat from his forehead, and came sprinting up the stone steps toward us.
"Mom! Dad!" Leo called out, catching his breath. "Did you see that save I made earlier?!"
"I sure did, birthday boy!" Dominic grinned, reaching out with his free hand to pull Leo into a warm, powerful side-hug, tussling his dark curls. "You played like a champion."
Leo looked up at his father, his gray eyes shining with pure admiration and unconditional love. "Thanks, Dad."
Then, Leo turned to me, wrapping his arms tightly around my waist, burying his face into my side. "Thanks for the best party ever, Mom. I love you."
I wrapped my arms around his shoulders, holding him tight, kissing the top of his dark head. "I love you too, my sweet boy. More than all the stars in the sky."
Lily came running up the steps a second later, throwing herself into the group hug, while little Anthony giggled, reaching his tiny hands down to pat everyone's heads.
We stood there together in the warm spring sunshine, wrapped in each other's arms, surrounded by laughter, love, and light.
