Chapter 11 - Bail and Broken Pride

While the fraud investigation began to brew in the background, Vanessa Vance made the colossal mistake of opening her mouth online.

Under house arrest in her father’s luxury home, Vanessa grew stir-crazy and consumed by rage. Convinced that the town was unfairly targeting her, she created a secondary social media profile and posted a twelve-minute video rant from her bedroom.

With smeared eyeliner and a glass of cabernet in hand, Vanessa tearfully claimed she was the "true victim of a targeted family smear campaign."

*"My sister has always been jealous of my success,"* Vanessa whined to the camera. *"She let her unruly child run wild at our parents' house. The child lunged at me, I tripped, and our hands collided. Now my sister's military husband is using his uniform to corrupt the local police and ruin my life! They are trying to extort money from my poor, elderly parents!"*

The video was up for less than two hours before a local blogger downloaded it and reposted it alongside the ER photos of Emma’s shattered nose.

The backlash was instant and merciless.

Over ten thousand comments flooded the internet within twenty-four hours:

- *"She's drinking wine and playing the victim while an 8-year-old is in surgery?"*

- *"She broke a child's face and calls it 'colliding hands'?"*

- *"Lock this monster up."*

More crucially, the prosecutor's office caught the video.

The conditions of Vanessa’s bail strictly prohibited her from discussing the criminal case on public forums or making statements intimidating the witnesses.
