Chapter 20 - The Ashes and the Rose

The morning sun crested the horizon of the Moretti estate, painting the rolling green lawns and the sprawling stone architecture in brilliant hues of gold and amber. The air was crisp, carrying the clean, earthy scent of autumn leaves and pine needles, completely purged of the heavy, suffocating smog of the past.
On the front lawn, beneath the sprawling branches of the ancient oak tree where Elena Moretti rested in peace, a simple wooden altar had been erected, adorned with white roses and trailing ivy.
Grace and Danielle stood near the altar, dressed in matching cream-colored dresses with delicate flower crowns resting on their dark hair, giggling quietly as they tossed handfuls of rose petals onto the green grass.
Clara stood in her dressing room inside the main house, looking at her reflection in the full-length gilded mirror. She wore a stunning, elegant gown of Chantilly lace and silk chiffon—simple, refined, and entirely her own. There were no heavy corsets, no golden chains, no forced obligations. Every thread represented freedom.
The door clicked open, and Vincent stepped into the room. He wore a tailored black tuxedo that highlighted his broad shoulders and commanding presence, but his dark eyes were soft, filled with an overwhelming, reverent adoration as he looked at her.
"My God, Clara," Vincent breathed, crossing the room in three long strides. He didn't touch her dress for fear of ruining it, instead cupping her face gently in his hands, his thumbs brushing across her cheekbones. "You take my breath away. Every single day, you manage to steal whatever breath I have left."
"You clean up nice yourself, Mr. Moretti," Clara teased softly, a bright, genuine smile lighting up her face.
"Are you ready?" he asked, his voice dropping into a tender whisper. "Ready to leave the past behind forever?"
"I've never been more ready for anything in my life."
Hand in hand, they walked out of the house and down the grand marble staircase—the same staircase where, over a year ago, Clara had stood frozen in terror, watching Vanessa glare down at her like a predator. Now, the marble caught the morning sunlight, shining brightly and welcoming them into a future unmarred by fear.
As they stepped out onto the lawn, the small string quartet began to play a gentle, soaring melody. Grace and Danielle ran forward, grabbing Clara’s hands and walking beside her down the green aisle toward where Vincent stood waiting by the altar.

The ceremony was short, intimate, and profoundly sacred. When the officiant asked for the rings, Vincent slid the heavy platinum band onto Clara’s finger, and she mirrored the gesture, sealing their vows with a deep, lingering kiss that tasted of forever.
As the small gathering erupted into cheers and applause, Clara looked out over the estate—her home, her family, her sanctuary. The storm was finally, truly over.
