Chapter 10 - Siege on the Estate

At the Reyes estate, the thunderstorm raged with terrifying fury.
Lightning cracked across the sky, illuminating the sprawling lawn in blinding flashes. Inside the darkened hallways of the east wing, twelve-year-old Sofia sat in the center of her bed, clutching a stuffed bear, her eyes wide with terror as distant gunshots echoed from the front security gate.
Downstairs, the front oak doors shattered under a sledgehammer blow.
Marcus Vance stepped through the splintered wood, his broken wrists strapped into reinforced carbon-fiber braces, a heavy revolver clutched awkwardly in his right hand. Behind him, ten heavily armed mercenaries poured into the foyer, stepping over the fallen bodies of the estate’s outer guards.
“Search every room!” Vance screamed, his voice wild with manic revenge. “Find the kid! If the old housekeeper gets in the way, put a bullet in her skull!”
Upstairs, Rosalind Marsh locked the heavy iron fire-door separating the main staircase from the family bedrooms. She stood in the dim corridor, holding an antique double-barreled shotgun with steady, practiced hands.
“Not while I’m breathing, you lowlife vermin,” Rosalind muttered under her breath.
Heavy boots pounded up the marble stairs. An axe slammed into the wooden paneling around the security door. Splinters flew. Vance’s men began cutting through the reinforced hinges with a portable torch.
Inside the bedroom, Sofia wept silently under the bed, holding her phone to her ear.
“Elena? Elena, they’re inside!” the girl sobbed into the receiver. “They’re breaking the door!”
In the speeding SUV three blocks away, Elena pressed the phone to her ear, tears streaming down her face as she pleaded, “Sofia, stay hidden! We’re coming! Damian is coming, baby, hold on!”
Damian looked at Elena, seeing the pure agony in her eyes. The cold rage that had defined his entire life transformed into something infinitely more dangerous: absolute, unbridled protective fury.
He pulled a customized black automatic pistol from a concealed compartment beneath the armrest, racked the slide with a sharp metallic clack, and looked out the window.
The iron gates of his estate were visible ahead, smashed open, surrounded by smoke and flashing muzzle fire.
“Ram the front doors,” Damian instructed the driver calmly.
“Boss?”
May you like
“Ram them.”
