Chapter 15 - The Raid on Cole Manor

Before the new beginning could truly take root, one final duty remained.

Under federal asset forfeiture and syndicate law, the Cole family ancestral estate in Lake Forest was scheduled for total liquidation. Daniel and David had insisted on inspecting the estate personally before the federal marshals cleared it, searching for any remaining sensitive files regarding the Whitfield legacy.

Naomi had insisted on coming along.

The sprawling manor was cold, stripped of its arrogance. The grand ballroom where Vanessa had once planned her lavish wedding was empty, the furniture draped in white sheets.

In Victor’s private underground vault, behind a reinforced false wall, Daniel and David uncovered the final missing piece of the puzzle: a collection of personal journals belonging to Marcus Whitfield, stolen fifteen years ago.

David held the leather-bound book, his hands trembling slightly as he read his father’s final words, written just days before the poison took his life.

*“If you are reading this, my sons, know that I loved you both beyond measure. Victor’s darkness has closed in, but our blood will endure. Daniel, lead with honor. David, protect the light. And find Clara’s child. For she will be the compass that leads our house back from the dark.”*

David closed the book, his eyes glistening with unshed tears. He handed the journal to Daniel.

“He knew,” David whispered. “Father always knew.”

Daniel looked down at the faded handwriting, then looked across the room at Naomi, who was standing beneath the arched stained-glass window, the sunlight illuminating her golden hair like an angel standing amid the ruins of a fallen kingdom.

“Yes,” Daniel agreed softly. “He did.”
