Chapter 19 - The Garden of Legacy

Autumn returned to the Hudson Valley, turning the rolling hills into a blazing tapestry of amber, crimson, and gold.
On the eastern terrace of the Moretti estate, Eleanor sat wrapped in a soft cashmere blanket, painting watercolors of the blooming mums and ornamental grasses. Her artistic talents, suppressed for decades beneath the demands of high-society protocol, had blossomed anew.
Down in the courtyard, near the fountain of the eagle and serpent, Luca walked hand-in-hand with Hannah.
Hannah wore a simple emerald-green knit dress that accented the sapphire blazing on her finger. As they walked beneath the canopy of golden maple leaves, a crisp, invigorating breeze carried the scent of woodsmoke and ripe apples from the neighboring orchards.
Hannah paused beside the stone fountain, looking down at the clear water reflecting the blue autumn sky.
“What are you thinking about, my love?” Luca asked, stopping beside her and brushing a stray lock of dark hair from her eyes.
Hannah placed her hand gently over his chest, feeling the steady, powerful rhythm of his heartbeat.
“I was thinking about the day we found your father’s ring,” she said softly. “He wrote that you should give it to the woman who stood beside your mother when the world was dark.”
“And you did,” Luca said.
“I did,” Hannah smiled, her hand drifting down to rest gently against her own stomach. “And now... there’s going to be someone else who needs to learn how to stand with us.”
Luca froze.
The feared, iron-willed businessman—who had stared down corrupt politicians, outmaneuvered international cartels, and brought down a multi-million-dollar conspiracy without flinching—felt his knees tremble.
His gaze dropped to her hand resting over her abdomen. His breath caught in his throat.
“Hannah...?” his voice was barely a whisper. “Are you...?”
Hannah nodded, her eyes shining with joyful, radiant tears. “Dr. Morrison confirmed it this morning. We’re having a baby, Luca. In May.”
For three seconds, Luca Moretti stood completely motionless, processing the magnitude of a miracle he had spent his entire lonely life believing he would never deserve.
Then, a laugh of pure, unadulterated joy burst from his chest.
He swept Hannah up into his arms, lifting her off her feet and spinning her around beneath the golden maple trees, their laughter echoing off the stone walls of the ancient mansion.
Eleanor dropped her paintbrush onto her palette. She stood up from her easel, leaning over the stone balustrade, her hands clasped together in joyful anticipation.
“Luca! Hannah! What is it?!” Eleanor called out across the courtyard.
Luca set Hannah gently back down on the flagstones, keeping his arm wrapped tightly around her waist as they both looked up toward his mother.
“Mother!” Luca called out, his voice ringing with triumphant joy. “Prepare the nursery! The Moretti family is growing!”

Eleanor let out a cry of delight, pressing her hands to her cheeks, tears of gratitude spilling freely down her face as she looked toward the heavens, silently thanking Lorenzo for watching over their home.
